Asymptotic Expansions of Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions of Random Boundary-value Problems*
An asymptotic procedure is developed for calculating the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of linear boundary-value problems which may contain random coefficients in the operator. The corresponding asymptotic series for the solution of a second-order initial-value problem is shown to be convergent.
متن کاملAsymptotic Behavior of Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions of One Discontinuous Boundary-value Problem
In this study we investigate asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of one discontinuous Sturm-Liouville problem with eigendependent boundary and transmission conditions. c ©2003 Yang’s Scientific Research Institute, LLC. All rights reserved.
متن کاملAsymptotic Distributions of Estimators of Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions in Functional Data
Functional data analysis is a relatively new and rapidly growing area of statistics. This is partly due to technological advancements which have made it possible to generate new types of data that are in the form of curves. Because the data are functions, they lie in function spaces, which are of infinite dimension. To analyse functional data, one way, which is widely used, is to employ princip...
متن کاملSingular Asymptotic Expansions for Dirichlet Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on Thin Planar Domains
We consider the Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions on a planar domain and study the effect that performing a scaling in one direction has on the spectrum. We derive the asymptotic expansion for the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions as a function of the scaling parameter around zero. This method allows us, for instance, to obtain an approximation for the first Dirichl...
متن کاملEigenvalues of complementary Lidstone boundary value problems
where l > 0. The values of l are characterized so that the boundary value problem has a positive solution. Moreover, we derive explicit intervals of l such that for any l in the interval, the existence of a positive solution of the boundary value problem is guaranteed. Some examples are also included to illustrate the results obtained. Note that the nonlinear term F depends on y’ and this deriv...
